Central Performance Running Centre – Dedicated Running Physios, Run Coaching Plus Strength And Conditioning
We love running as much as you do, so we know how frustrating it is to miss sessions due to injury. That’s why we focus on keeping you running as much as possible while we manage your injury. Plus once we get you feeling great, we give you strategies to keep you running injury-free into the future.
And for us, it’s not all about managing injuries. We love working with runners of all abilities to get the most out of their running and feel the satisfaction of running at their best. That’s why our running coaching and run-specific strength and conditioning programs are the choice of Sydney runners. Every day we help runners from recreational to elite level to run faster for longer with less chance of injury.
Meet Our Head Of Running Performance – Ben Liddy
Our coaching team is headed up by Ben Liddy, one of the few Australian-based World Athletics Level 4 Certified middle-long distance running coaches. With a history of running at the elite level himself, Ben really understands the physical and mental demands of running, as well as the process of recovering from injury.
As Head Of Running Performance Ben spends almost all of his time managing running injuries as well as running coaching to improve performance. He is extremely passionate about running & loves working with both our recreational and elite athletes.
As well as working with recreational runners Ben also coaches our elite run squad, Central Performance Track. This invitation-only squad includes runners from state to national level. He also works with our coaching team in developing our junior track squad, Central Performance Juniors.
The Central Performance Running Centre
Our running centre is designed to be a “one stop shop” for Sydney runners. We love working with runners of all abilities, from beginners and recreational runners through to serious competitors and elite/sponsored athletes. We believe that helping people to get the most out of their running is so important whatever their ability, experience, motivation and level of competition – if any competition at all; many of our clients just run for their own personal fitness and health.
Sydney Running Centre – Physio, Coaching Plus Strength & Conditioning
1. Running Physio
Our running physios are the first choice for many runners across Sydney. With a dedicated and experienced team who really understand running, we help you understand what’s going on with your injury, how it happened, how to manage it, and how to prevent it happening again. Whenever possible we keep you running as you recover, and talk you through exactly how to modify your program to maintain your fitness and cross-train while completing your injury rehab program.
We believe in using an active approach when managing injuries. After clarifying your diagnosis, we combine targeted exercise with manual therapy (hands-on treatment techniques) to relieve your pain as quickly as possible. Once this is achieved, the focus really shifts to strengthening exercise, mobility drill when needed, and progression back to your full running program. Our aim is always to get you running faster for longer with less risk of injury than you had before coming to see us.
A particular area of expertise for our running physios is the early diagnosis and treatment of bony stress injuries in runners. This is very important because early diagnosis and correct management is critical in preventing progression to stress fractures. These are harder to manage, may involve surgery, and take you out of running for extended periods. The body areas usually associated with bone stress injuries in runners are the feet (especially the navicular bone), shins (the tibia bone, often labelled as “shin splints”), and sometimes the femur (thigh bone).

2. Running Coaching
We coach runners of all levels, from beginner to elite. Our coaching programs are fully personalised to each clients goals, running experience and level of fitness. You don’t need to be a “serious runner” to benefit from quality coaching. We help runners improve their performance by making their running technique more efficient, allowing them to run faster for longer and get more out of their sessions.
As well as lifting your performance, improving your running form helps you avoid injuries. It can be a vital part of stopping those annoying recurrent pains from keeping going, and reduces your risk of having new injuries interrupt your training.
As well as improving your running gait, our coaches can advise you on the right running program. From adjusting your overall weekly running volume down to monitoring the distance and intensity of each run, combining the right program with an efficient running gait helps you run at your best and stay injury-free.
3. Strength And Conditioning For Runners
Many runners under-estimate the benefits that a run-specific strength and conditioning program can bring to their running. It can increase your performance by helping to improve your running biomechanics and running economy. By strengthening the key muscles required for running as well as your core stabilisers, and integrating plyometric drills to help minimise your ground contact time, your running efficiency improves. This increased efficiency allows you to run faster for longer with less effort. Read our blog post for more info.
A properly designed strength program also significantly reduces your risk of running-related injuries. As you strengthen your muscles, you also strengthen your tendons, bone and cartilage. This increase in strength means that all of these structures can tolerate the loads
